New Scholarship for Class of 2024 High School Equivalency Completers

The new Opportunity Next scholarship is available for students who earned their High School Equivalency Diploma during the 2023-24 academic year (August 2023 to May/June 2024) and are looking to enroll in college, university, registered apprenticeships, technical college, or other approved training providers for the 2024-25 academic year! You may receive up to $1,500 to be used for tuition, fees, books, and equipment and access free college and career advising from expert coaches. Learners pursuing an in-demand pathway will be prioritized, and you do not have to demonstrate financial need to qualify.

This scholarship is provided through the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade and was created by Senate Bill 23-205. You do not need to apply directly to Opportunity Next; instead, you will apply to a participating program in the state, and the program will then notify you of eligibility for this scholarship. Note: participating colleges and universities have already been chosen, but registered apprenticeships, technical colleges, and other training providers are currently in the process of applying and being approved to participate. The approved list of those types of programs may not be published until May of 2024.

If you have any questions, please use the chat box function on the Opportunity Next website to contact them directly.

The PWR of High School Equivalency

A High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma is equivalent to a traditional high school diploma for the purpose of obtaining education or employment in Colorado. The two State Board of Education-approved HSE tests in Colorado are:

  • the GED® (General Educational Development) Test, provided by GED Testing Service (GEDTS®); and
  • the HiSET® (High School Equivalency Test), provided by PSI Services.

Note: As of September 2020, TASC is no longer offered in Colorado; however, credentials earned by taking the TASC test are still valid.

Legislation Overview

  • CRS 22-33-104.7 - Eligibility for the general educational development tests
  • 1 CCR 301-2 - Rules for the administration of the HSE examination program
