Monitoring Process - Non-subgrantee Districts
All school districts across the state are required to be in compliance with Subtitle VII-B of The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. This federal act authorizes the Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program and serves as the primary piece of federal legislation related to the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness. It was reauthorized in December 2015 by Title IX, Part A, of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
The Colorado Department of Education evaluates districts on an annual basis based on factors associated with identification numbers of students experiencing homelessness, poverty levels across the district and participation in required reporting by the district.
If selected for on-site monitoring, the McKinney-Vento District Liaison will be contacted at a minimum 45 days prior to the scheduled visit.
