CDE-approved Alternative Assessment
Rule
13.01(C)(3) In the event that a teacher completes one of the evidence-based training options listed in 13.01(C)(2) but lacks proof of passing an end of course assessment, the teacher may take and pass an alternative assessment authorized by the State Board aligned to the expectations of this section.
Process
Educators will submit evidence of meeting the evidence-based training in teaching reading requirement to the CDE through the Colorado Online Licensing (COOL) system.
District Duties/Tasks

District maintains a record of which teachers have met this requirement.

District reports this information to the CDE upon request.

Proceed to the Colorado ETS Requirements webpage.

Once on the page, scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the test under the READ Act Testing Option tab.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In order for candidates to identify themselves as teachers fulfilling the Colorado READ Act requirement, candidates must select the Colorado READ Act: In-Service (code 7041) as their attending institution and as a score recipient when registering for or requesting an additional score report request.

Teacher takes the test.

Teacher submits documentation of a score on the PRAXIS of 159 or higher to the Colorado Online Licensing (COOL) system and certifies within the COOL application that they have completed evidence-based training in teaching reading that meets the training requirement as described in the READ Act and Rule.

Teacher receives and saves a copy of documentation from the CDE that demonstrates the “READ Act designation” attached to their CDE file.

Teacher notifies the district that he/she has met this requirement and provides the district with documentation.
