1. When do I use the CTE Renewal/Reinstatement application?

This application is used for both those applicants who seek to renew their professional 5-year CTE authorization and those who have allowed their CTE authorization to lapse for 2 or more years and wish to reinstate their authorization.

2. Can I renew/reinstate a CTE Authorization that has expired/lapsed for 2 years or more?

Yes. A CTE authorization that has lapsed for 2 years or more can be reinstated. To reinstate a CTE authorization, in addition to the requirements assigned at the time the CTE authorization was issued, the applicant must also provide verification of 1,000 hours of related occupational experience completed in the content area within the last 5 years. For instructors that have been teaching in the CTE content area for the last 7 or more years, 3 school years of full time instructional experience in the credential area may be substituted for the 1,000 hours of relevant occupational experience that is required to renew a lapsed credential.

3. When can my current/valid CTE Professional authorization be renewed?

A CTE Professional authorization may be renewed up to six months prior to the expiration date. You must complete the CTE Renewal/Reinstatement application. Six semester hours of renewal credit must be taken within 5 years of the submission date of the renewal application.

4. Does renewal credit have to be taken at a college/university or can it be taken at a school district that offers professional development or in-service courses?

Coursework may be taken at a college or university but it is not required. School Districts may offer approved Professional Development/In-Service credits as long as the course content is relevant to your credential area or relates to Numeracy, Literacy or Technology. Note: 1 semester hour is equivalent to 15 contact/clock hours.

5. What evidence do I need to submit to document my coursework for renewal?

You will need to submit official transcripts from an accepted, regionally accredited institution of higher education, professional development/in-service certificates, or a combination thereof. A certificate verifying professional development/in-service must contain the course title, the number of contact hours completed, and an authorized signature. (15 hours = 1 credit).

6. Do you have to have extra renewal classes (hours) for each credential on a CTE Professional authorization?

No. The requirement for renewal is six semester hours or 90 clock hours total.

7. Can teaching experience be used to reinstate a CTE Professional Authorization that has lapsed for 2 years or more?

Yes. Instructors who have been teaching for the past 7 years or more, and who have allowed their CTE authorization to lapse for more than 2 years, may substitute 3 years of fulltime instructional experience in the credentialing area for the 1,000 hours of relevant occupational experience that is required to renew a lapsed authorization.

8. How long does it take to process a CTE Renewal/Reinstatement application?

Typically, it will take approximately 2-4 weeks from date of receipt to process a complete CTE application.

9. My CTE credential has been added to my Professional Teaching License. How many classes/hours are required for renewal?

A total of six semester hours or 90 clock hours of credit will renew all endorsements/credentials.

10. What are the most common processing delays for a CTE renewal/reinstatement application?
