Stories of Promising Practice - More Options - Concurrent Enrollment
Lamar Community College
Granada School District RE-1
Lamar Community College, working with the Southeastern BOCES, has developed an effective way of helping high school students in southeastern Colorado obtain college credits through Concurrent Enrollment and distance learning.
Southeastern Colorado has some of the highest rates of high school students participating in Concurrent Enrollment, thanks to the effective program run by Lamar Community College. Nearly 30 percent of 902 high school aged students took Concurrent Enrollment courses in 2017-18 - ranking among the highest percentages in Colorado. The community college uses distance learning that allows students to participate in college-level classes throughout the 12 district region via video feeds.
Annessa Stagner Stulp, dean of academic services at Lamar Community College, explains its Concurrent Enrollment program.
