Final enrollment data for 2020-21 released
The final count of Colorado P-12 students confirms a 3.3% decrease in state enrollment for 2020-21 with the biggest drop in early grades. The state had its first decrease in year-to-year enrollment in over three decades due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

State board reauthorizes all but two educator preparation programs at Regis University
Regis University’s educator preparation programs for elementary and special education were conditionally approved for the 2021-22 school year provided that the university improves instruction on teaching reading.

State’s four-year graduation rate increases
A total of 81.9% of the Class of 2020 graduated last spring - the highest graduation rate in a decade despite the global pandemic that disrupted education in the last two months of the 2019-20 school year, according to data released by CDE.

Deadline for standards revision committee application extended
The Standards and Instructional Support Office is now accepting applications through Jan. 31 for standards revision committee membership in the following content areas: social studies, visual arts, music, dance and drama/theatre arts.

Education stakeholders do not reach consensus
The COVID-19 Policy Implications Stakeholder Group has recommended that some state assessments should continue as planned this spring while others should not occur. No decision was reached on CMAS tests in math and English language arts for third through eighth grade.

State Board extends deadline for READ Act teacher training
The State Board of Education has granted an additional six months to educators to complete training required by the READ Act. K -3 teachers will now have until Jan. 31, 2022, to complete training on evidence-based reading instruction.

CDE announces Safe Schools Reopening Grant
A new $15 million grant opportunity is available for school districts and BOCES that are struggling to return to in-person learning and need additional resources to safely reopen when possible.

School and district ratings to remain the same this year
At its November meeting, the State Board of Education extended the school and district ratings assigned in 2019. Districts and schools will not receive a 2020 performance framework report or updated plan types.
