State Board reviews feedback on social studies standards
The board will consider final recommendations on revisions to the social studies academic standards at its May board meeting after receiving public comment on the matter. The board expects to continue review of these standards throughout the fall, with a final vote anticipated no later than December.

State Board denies Adams 14 request to postpone accountability hearings
The state board denied Adams 14 School District’s request to postpone its accountability hearings scheduled for April 14. It will proceed with the scheduled hearings on the district and Central Elementary School on April 14.

Denver teacher wins prestigious Milken Award
Reina Cruz, a social studies teacher at Northfield High School in Denver Public Schools, was honored with a $25,000 Milken Educator Award. The Milken Family Foundation surprised Cruz at a school assembly attended by Gov. Polis and Commissioner Anthes.

At it's March meeting, the board honored 2022 Colorado Teacher of the Year as well as the Colorado's latest recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Board sets date for Adams 14 and Central Elementary accountability hearings
With its focus on improving academic outcomes for all students, the state board has set accountability hearings for the school and district for Thursday, April 14. Public comment will be open through Friday, April 8, to inform the actions the board will direct.

Board considers progress at schools and a district implementing directed actions
At its monthly meeting, the state board reviewed information about the progress at several schools and one district implementing actions directed by the board to improve student achievement. The board also moved the accountability hearing on Central Elementary School to April.

Board temporarily denies Adams 14 request to find new lead partner
The board voted to deny the school district's request to find a new outside manager until more information is available. The request came as a motion to amend a 2018 order that required Adams 14 to find a management partner to reverse long standing struggles in student academic performance.

Colorado school enrollment increases slightly after 2020’s decline
Colorado’s preschool through 12th grade public school population grew slightly this fall compared to the year before when the state’s school enrollment numbers declined for the first time in 30 years.
