March 12th, 2025 – Understanding School Violence (Recorded Training)

Define different types of school violence (physical, verbal, emotional, cyberbullying, sexual assault).
Recognize potential warning signs of violence in students (behavioral changes, social isolation, threats, violent language).
Understand the impact of school violence on students, staff, and the school community.

May 7th, 2025 – 9:00am-9:45am - Reporting Procedures – Register using the May 7th Zoom Registration

Understand the importance of reporting all incidents of school violence or concerning behavior.
Learn proper channels and protocols for reporting school safety concerns (administrators, counselors, law enforcement).

Each module includes a video around 10 minutes long, a quiz, a processing guide, and additional links to outside resources as needed. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for all the modules offered.

External Training Opportunities

Digital Threat Assessment - Register by April 25

The Office of School Safety is pleased to be able to offer the Digital Threat Assessment virtual training presented by the experts, Safer Schools Together.
This NO-Cost workshop will be held virtually on Friday, May 2nd.
We must have at least 20 participants to proceed so please register as soon as possible.
This basic workshop gives your threat assessment team the skills to review social media when assessing a student’s behavior.

I Love You Guys Reunification Workshop - Registration is Open until April 29

Tuesday, May 27th from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM
Northeastern Junior College, 100 College Avenue, Sterling, CO
Capacity - 100 participants (but please come with your team)
Cost - No cost as the OSS has a partnership arrangement with ILUG
This workshop will be a brief overview of the Standard Responses Protocol followed by an in-depth discussion and practice of reunification after a critical incident as outlined by the I Love You Guys Foundation.

School Safety Academy—IN PERSON and Expenses Paid!

The Academy is a 20-hour training for anyone tasked to be the school safety lead at your school or district. Applicants must have completed FEMA courses IS-100.C and 362.A. Mileage, lodging (as necessary), and meals not offered at the Academy will be covered by the Office of School Safety. We are excited to offer the Academy in person for the first time and look forward to representation from across Colorado!
The Academy will be held at the Colorado Department of Public Safety (690 Kipling Street) over 2 ½ days on Tuesday, June 3rd through Thursday, June 5th.
Registration will be capped at 25, so start the prerequisites now!
The first application received from each school/district will be given preference. Please submit applications to Mike.Vagher@state.co.us.

School Resource Officers BASIC Training by National Association of School Resource Officers

The Office of School Safety has enough grant funding remaining to hold two final School Resource Officer BASIC Trainings this summer. After this our grant funding will be gone.
Both will be held the week of August 4th through the 8th.
- Summit County School District, Frisco
- Otero Junior College, La Junta
All expenses will be covered for a total of 40 participants. This includes the National Association of School Resource Officers fees, hotel room (if necessary), mileage to the training and per diems for meals not provided at the workshops.
