Overview of CDE Data Collections

The types of data CDE collects about students and educators is mandated by state and federal law. For detailed information about the Department's data collections, please review the three major types of data collections, listed below. The data in these collections comes from the Data Pipeline. Data Pipeline is the system that CDE uses to collect state and federally mandated data from districts:

  • Snapshots: Data is uploaded to Pipeline through files submitted by Colorado districts and Boards of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES). These files are uploaded into specific data collections, such as Year Round Collections or Periodic Collections, or in to Interchanges. Interchanges are groups of files that contain similar information. For example, the Staff Interchange has files that are used to report staff demographic information as well as information about subject taught and so forth. Snapshots are data collections that pull together information from different Interchanges to meet a specific reporting need.
  • Year Round Collections: These data collections contain information that is continually updated throughout the school year, through a single file uploaded into Pipeline.
  • Periodic Collections: These data collections contain information that are collected once a year, through a single file uploaded into Pipeline.
