East Otero School District R1 is located in Southeast Colorado and serves 1340 students. There are 4 campuses for the district. La Junta Primary serves K-2, La Junta Intermediate Serves 3-6, and the La Junta Junior-Senior High School Serves grades 7-12. Tiger Trades Academy is a CDE approved Alternative Education Campus for students 7-12 who want to focus on workforce readiness as opposed to a more traditional college route. The district is in it's first year on the accreditation clock and was d…
ropped a level due to low participation. The Jr-Sr High School was dropped a level to priority improvement for the same reason. Consequently, the district is putting a very intentional focus upon test participation and the reduction of parent opt-outs this year. The Intermediate School is in year 4 of turnaround while the Primary School is on Targeted Improvement at the Federal Level due to low academic achievement on assessments. The district provides high intensity tutoring for literacy in grades 1-6 with the Children's Literacy Center to help improve reading scores.
