RE-1 Valley School District is a rural school district located on the Northeastern Plains alongside the Platte River. The community is small and rural and the population has been fluctuating in the last several years. The major employer in the area consists of the Sterling Correctional Facility and small businesses. Sterling is surrounded by several other small communities and school districts within 20 to 30 miles to include: Fleming, Haxtun, Prairie, Merino, and Peetz. Our district has been fa…
cing declining enrollment from 1,914 students in May 2023 to 1,883 in October 2023. The district, as well as, each school has an accountability/advisory committee consisting of parents, teachers/staff, and community members who contribute to and approve district and school improvement efforts.
