Finalists for the 2021 Colorado Teacher of the Year announced
Seven finalists for the 2021 Colorado Teacher of the Year competition have been announced, with the sole finalist to be announced by the end of October. Each year the program recognizes an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled K-12 classroom teacher to represent the entire profession for Colorado.

Four Colorado schools earn national Blue Ribbon honors
The Colorado Department of Education congratulates the four Colorado schools named by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos as 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools, celebrating their high academic outcomes and efforts to close the achievement gap among student subgroups.

Participation in Colorado’s dual enrollment programs continues to grow
Nearly 50,500 students took at least one dual enrollment course during the 2018-19 academic year, according to a report released by the Colorado Department of Higher Education and CDE. This was an increase of nearly 4,700 students from 2017-18, or a 9.2% jump in dual enrollment participation overall.

CDE launches campaign on importance of reading to children at home
To increase awareness of the importance of early literacy, the Colorado Department of Education today launched a public information campaign to encourage and empower parents to make reading part of their daily routine with their children.

U.S. Department of Education awards Colorado a five-year, $16 million grant for literacy advancement
The U.S. Department of Education awarded Colorado a $16 million grant to implement the Colorado Comprehensive Literacy Project, which aims to advance literacy skills for children from birth to grade 12 with special emphasis on disadvantaged children, including children living in poverty, English learners and children with disabilities.

Students can get free meals through fall
All children will be able to receive nutritious meals at no charge this fall at participating school sites regardless of their eligibility status. Normally, during the school year, students receive free or reduced priced meals if they qualify based on household income or other eligibility categories.

State Board reauthorizes MSU Denver's educator preparation programs
 The Colorado State Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting held on Wednesday and Thursday approved both MSU Denver’s traditional and alternative teacher licensure programs except for two endorsement areas.

Colorado Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer program

Food benefits reimbursement program available for families
Beginning Wednesday, July 22, the Colorado Department of Human Services, in collaboration with CDE, will offer Coloradans with school-enrolled children food benefits through the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer program. This effort will help support Colorado’s families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
