State Board directs Douglas County Schools to close HOPE Online Elementary
The board directed Douglas County School District to revoke the charter for HOPE Online Learning Academy Elementary School, effectively requiring closure at the end of the 2019-20 school year.

Colorado adds nearly 12,000 full-day kindergarten students in first year of new law
A total of 61,989 kindergartners enrolled in full-day classes in Colorado’s public schools this fall, 11,913 more than the previous year, an increase that can be attributed to legislation that went into effect for the 2019-20 school year.

Parent representatives needed on state advisory council
The State Advisory Council for Parent Involvement in Education (SACPIE) has three openings for parent representatives and four organization members. Applicants must currently be serving on a school or district accountability committee and live in congressional districts 5, 6 or 7.

State’s four-year graduation rate increases to 81.1%
A total of 81.1% of the Class of 2019 graduated last spring, the highest graduation rate in nine years, according to CDE. The Class of 2019 had 999 more graduates than the Class of 2018 – a 0.4 percentage point increase.

State Board approves management plan for Pueblo’s Central High School
The board approved Pueblo City 60 School District’s plan to partner with Relay Graduate School of Education and the University of Virginia’s Partnership for Leaders in Education to partially manage Central High School.

State Board approves school ratings
The board completed all ratings under the state’s accountability system for public schools, giving the highest rating to 1,256 schools serving 620,219 students.

Districts and schools receive 2019 performance awards
More than 320 performance awards were given out at CDE's annual ceremony. In total, 65 districts and 257 schools throughout Colorado were honored.

Colorado Teacher of the Year announced
Hilary Wimmer, a business teacher at Mountain Range High School in Adams 12 Five Star Schools, was named Colorado’s 2020 Teacher of the Year in a special ceremony at the high school today.
