203C: Progress Monitoring: Are My Students Meeting Expected Outcomes?

Data-driven decision making is utilized on a regular basis by special education teachers to set post-school and annual goals for IEP development. Progress Monitoring of student Academic and/or functional performance provides key information for this purpose and is best practice for IEP development, classroom instruction and implementation of transition activities. In addition, research shows effective progress monitoring assists service providers in making informed decisions related to student needs, improves student achievement, and empowers students to be more aware of their performance to set short, and long term goals. However, it can be challenging to find the time and strategies to progress monitor student growth. This session will explore strategies that can make progress monitoring more simple, save time and help provide good data to determine if students are reaching expected outcomes.
- Determine the purpose of consistent progress monitoring to make informed decisions regarding student needs and the attainment of post-school goals.
- Identify useful strategies which can be implemented to progress monitor student growth towards expected academic and functional outcomes.
