May 2019 Meeting Update
The Commissioner’s Rural Education Council met in beautiful Ouray, Colorado in May. Council members enjoyed a special welcome from the high school band and learned about the unique student engagement activities offered by the district to families. January 2019 Meeting Update
The Commissioner's Rural Education Council traveled to North Valley Middle School in the Weld County RE-1 School District and were welcomed by Superintendent Don Rangel and staff. Read more about the work of the Council in our January 2019 meeting update (PDF).
October 2018 Meeting Update
The Commissioner's Rural Education Council fall meeting was hosted by Superintendent Frank Reeves and East Grand School District in Winter Park. The primary focus of the meeting was the preparation and discussion of the document Rural Education Council School Preparedness Fall 2018 (PDF).
July 2018 Meeting Update
The Commissioner’s Rural Education Council’s summer meeting was held as part of the CASE Pre-Conference at the Beaver Run Resort in beautiful Breckenridge. The Council welcomed newly appointed members Superintendent Lori Haukeness of Montezuma, Principal Chris Hinger of Pagosa Springs Middle School, Superintendent Don Rangel of Weld County RE-1, Board Members Lanie Meyers-Mireles of Lamar and Limon’s Wendy Pottorff and celebrated outgoing members Superintendent Scott Cooper of Dolores, Board Members John Knapp of Rocky Ford and Donna Rhode of Cheraw, Superintendent Alan Dillon of DeBeque, Superintendent Douglas Bissonette of Elizabeth, Principal Kyle Stumpf of Holyoke, and Superintendent Rick Mondt of Briggsdale. Topics regarding gifted and talented planning, a legislative wrap up, and a continuing conversation on school safety were discussed for the day’s agenda. April 2018 Meeting Update
The Commissioner’s Rural Education Council spring meeting was hosted by Superintendent Alan Dillon and the DeBeque School District on April 18th. The Council toured the district and was met with great hospitality from staff and students alike. Agenda items included an overview of the proposed educator talent rules, science standards, an accountability focus group, transportation supports and much more. January 2018 Meeting Update
The Commissioner's Rural Education Council hit the ground running in 2018 with a meeting on January 19th in Peyton/Widefield. The Council toured Peyton School District as well as the MiLL, an amazing collaborative effort between Peyton and Widefield School Districts. Agenda items included an overview of the rulemaking process, information on the administrative unit transfer process, and an update on the educator shortage action plan.
