Currently Designated Early Colleges

All Early Colleges that were designated by the SBE on or after May 21, 2009 must submit a review application for the SBE to confirm whether the secondary school meets the curriculum requirements for an Early College as specified in C.R.S. 22-35-103(10)(a), and thus retain its designation.  Moving forward, each designated Early College must submit a review application no later than five years after its most recent State Board determination to retain its Early College designation. 

The State Board shall consider whether the secondary school offers only a curriculum compliant with C.R.S. 22-35-103(10)(a) that students successfully complete within four year in making renewal Early College designation determinations.

Failure to submit a timely review application (either as due every five years or as requested by the State Board) shall be deemed an abandonment of the designation, and the Department will recommend to the State Board that it make a determination accordingly.

A secondary school that the State Board determines does not meet the curriculum requirements specified in C.R.S. 22-35-103(10)(a) is no longer designated as an Early College. The provisions of the Concurrent Enrollment Programs Act, sections C.R.S. 22-35-101 et seq., shall apply to the school beginning with the following academic year. A school may apply or re-apply for Early College designation through the State Board process per 1 CCR 301-105.

Pupil Enrollment

For the 2018-19 and 2019-20 budget years, a district and charter school authorizer that supports an Early Colleges school that was designated pursuant to section 22-35-103 (10) as an early college before June 6, 2018 may include in its pupil enrollment pupils who after completing four years of high school, enroll for the 2018-19 or 2019-20 budget years in postsecondary courses (per C.R.S. 22-54-103 (10)(g).
