Funding Opportunity for the Mesa Local Workforce Area
The federally-funded Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) was reauthorized as Title ll of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act in July of 2014. The federal program provides grants to state agencies intended to fund local programs of adult basic and secondary education and English language acquisition in many contexts: foundational literacy, high-school equivalency, family literacy, integrated English literacy and civics, workforce preparation, workplace education, and integrated education and training.
As outlined in the WIOA State Plan, (accessible version) every effort should be made to ensure there is at least one eligible provider serving in each local workforce area. The previous grant recipient in the Mesa local workforce area has decided to switch their business model. As a result of that shift there is an opportunity to serve the Mesa local workforce area with federal AEFLA funds. The Colorado Workforce Development Council has a map that shows Colorado’s Local Workforce Development Areas. See AEI’s Current Grantee Map for an interactive Google Maps view.
The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Office of Adult Education Initiatives (AEI) is soliciting applications from eligible providers within the Mesa local workforce area to develop, implement, and improve adult education and literacy activities within the local area by establishing or operating programs that provide a comprehensive service model for adult education and literacy services and instruction, including programs that provide such activities concurrently. CDE anticipates awarding one two-year grant, ranging from $100,000 to $114,000. Note: Applicants must demonstrate a match of 40% of the funds requested.
